AYANA BALI
Expressing the overwhelming number of ways to spend time across a 90-hectare site as “AYANA time.”
We carefully covered the entire vast resort — spanning a site area of as much as 90 hectares — and finely edited its overwhelming number of ways to spend time and its many attractions. We shot every scene afresh, giving each photograph and piece of footage the warmth and depth unique to the location. We built the site so that the time spent at AYANA BALI, where elegance and dynamism coexist, can be sensed intuitively online as well.

About the Client
AYANA BALI
-
AYANA BALI
Embraced by a vast 90-hectare site and surrounded by sea and forest, AYANA BALI is a large-scale resort with four hotels of different concepts, 30 restaurants and bars, and 14 pools.
-
A resort where a wide variety of experiences are possible within the grounds — a world-famous “Rock Bar,” diverse dining, pools each with their own character, and ways to spend time suited to your purpose.
What the Project Aimed For

A great appeal of AYANA is being able to choose among various ways to spend time within its vast grounds — yet the existing website could not fully convey that characteristic. It was not structured so that the scale of the entire site, and the relationships among the scattered facilities, could be grasped intuitively, leaving users unable to easily understand “what is where right now, and how it can be enjoyed.” As a result, the website could not fully function as a starting point for considering a visit or use, and much of the booking behavior flowed off to external sites — a challenge the client faced.
Project Timeline
Duration: 1 year 6 months (April 2023 – October 2024)

Point 1 — A One-Week Stay in Bali for a Thorough On-Site Experience
Research
Identifying various user needs through a 7-day on-site inspection
To accurately grasp the whole picture of AYANA BALI, we conducted a 7-day on-site inspection together with the editorial team responsible for creating the articles and the shooting team. Carefully imagining what guests are looking for, we created a customer journey. We actually experienced the various experiences and service features within the resort, deeply digging into the appeal and value unique to AYANA BALI. Through this process, we gained insights useful not merely for gathering information, but for designing the experience from the user’s perspective.
Direction Setting
Proposing a 229-page renewal direction-setting document compiling issues, analysis, and concept ideas
We created a 229-page direction-setting document to fully convey AYANA BALI’s appeal. Compiling extensive research, input, and verification — covering problem-solving, concept, and planning ideas — we shared with the client where the site was headed, making it a place to return to throughout production. The document can be downloaded from the link below.

Point 2 — Dynamic Footage Packed with AYANA’s Appeal
Film Direction
Taking in the whole of AYANA BALI through footage, including aerial shots
For the footage, we collaborated with the Fukao Film Lab at Nippon Design Center, led by Daiki Fukao, shooting a diverse range of the many fragments you can experience at AYANA BALI. We connected footage of numerous scenes and expressed them as a single collective whole, distilling the appeal of a vast, fathomless facility into film.
Point 3 — Four “Hotels,” Each with a Distinctive Character
Content Design
Reliving the local way of spending time through visual communication
On the pages for the four hotels — “RESORT,” “VILLAS,” “SEGARA,” and “RIMBA” — we expressed and clearly conveyed each one’s different atmosphere and locational features, and also created “Stories” that let you relive the local scenery. Composed of multiple chapters, the Stories add, alongside the visuals, proposals for how to use and spend time at each appealing facility.
Point 4 — A “Rock Bar” and “Spa” That Convey the Local Exhilaration
Content Design
A design that lets you feel time and depth with all five senses, through storylines and photo composition
We also put great effort into the pages for the “Rock Bar,” strung along a 270-meter cliff, and the “Spa,” with a temple-like sublimity. Weaving many visuals and words elegantly and dynamically, we organized and introduced each one’s features in an easy-to-understand way. We aimed for pages where you can feel the exhilaration of actually being at the facilities.

Point 5 — A “Guide Map” Covering Every Facility on the Site
Content Design
Developing a fully original guide map, from graphics to functionality
So big you can’t tell what is where — and you can’t even tell how big it is in the first place. Aiming for a map app that lets you understand and plan around such concerns before you go, and use it on-site as well, we carried out detailed verification and adjustment. We also implemented it on each facility’s detail page as a neighborhood walking map, optimizing the specifications. Linked with GPS, it can show your current location when you are within the grounds.
Point 6 — Eight “Model Courses” Introducing Various Ways to Spend Time
Content Design
Proposing courses suited to various users — couples, families, solo travelers, and more
With each “AYANA time” as the concept, you can find a course that suits you. We designed it as a function to help travelers plan. Setting courses by target, we meticulously designed a vast amount of information so that you can find the place that best suits you, make reservations, and plan your trip’s itinerary.

Point 7 — On-Site Shooting in Bali Spanning 17 Days in Total
Shooting Direction
A large-scale on-site shoot with more than 230 extras
Almost all of the vast quantity of photographs used were shot afresh for the renewal. Location scouting and the main shoot, spanning 17 days in total on-site, were carried out with a four-team setup, becoming a large-scale shoot that introduced a total of more than 30,000 photographs and 230 extras. To capture the entire grounds, we prepared a helicopter for aerial shooting, and with the client’s cooperation in deploying models and people, we firmly controlled the content we wanted to aim for in photo and video.

Point 8 — Design Formats Created in All Four Languages: JP, EN, ZH, KO
Multilingual Support
Multilingual design mindful even of line-break adjustment after translation
Precisely because AYANA welcomes travelers from around the world, we were particular about multiple languages. We created design formats for all four languages — Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean — paying attention even to line-break adjustment after translation. Precisely because it is a format, we were conscious of holding everything to the same standard. Through fine tuning by translators, inputters, and implementers, we achieved a finish that feels good to look at in any language.

Point 9 — Developing a Custom CMS Manageable via Spreadsheet
CMS Build
Building a highly operable CMS that manages editing in four languages on a single sheet
We developed a CMS that can generate pages from Google Spreadsheets / Drive, managing all text and images on sheets. In addition to a familiar operability, we fully utilized the sheets’ inherent functions — simultaneous editing by multiple people, cell-level commenting, and edit history — to build out more than 800 pages across four languages.

This project is the crystallization of team strength. We took on an overseas project unlike anything we’d experienced, set the high goal of “making the world’s best site,” and built it all together. Thanks of course to the client and partners, and especially to mount’s younger members who persisted and gave their all, it took shape. About two years from the first consultation. It was a continuous challenge for me too, but precisely because each person dug in and faced it, I think we were able to see it through. I have nothing but gratitude for the entire team.

I can’t believe the day this long, long journey ends has come. Until the very moment it’s safely published, I won’t believe it.
