SUNTORY|3D on the Rocks
Fusing tradition and the cutting edge.
A new way to enjoy whisky,
carving ice from 3D data.
This is the special site for “3D on the Rocks,” a project proposed by SUNTORY in which you turn a shape you like into ice from 3D data and enjoy it with whisky. To express this project, which colors a historic culture with cutting-edge technology, we composed it with content that updates the conventional image of whisky, set to the rhythm of a big-band version of Johann Strauss II’s “Voices of Spring.” The opening that visualizes ice being carved out, and the top page that combines, in real time, footage of the finished ice with the wireframe of the original 3D data — both are finished with a cool, up-tempo worldview to match the music. On the gallery page, an interaction where operating the rotation speed of the glass with the ice by mouse makes the original 3D-data wireframe emerge expresses that the ice was carved from 3D data.
